  • Champagne Blind Tasting 5/29/22 (Jackie's House): Tasted blind along with seven other Champagnes between 10 people. Prices ranging from $15-180.

Medium gold. Autolysis and oxidative notes of yeast, bread dough, pastry, almond, green fruit notes, Asian pear, lemon peel. Bright and acidic, but starting to develop tertiary notes. Med+ acid, med+ body, long finish, delicate mousse. Quite enjoyable and definitely the most developed Champagne of the night. Compared to the 2010 that I have had recently, the 2007 still showing the older oxidative styling of JV that was not seen in the 2010. 92 pts

  • I didn't mean to buy this. Sent to me accidentally due to a "misplace at the warehouse"- I got big discount and ended up paying just $29 for the bottle. Not bad for a Grand Cru Champagne, even I didn't initially buy it.

The wine is drinkable, ok, but very developed, and to my palate, almost completely over the hill. And that's coming from someone who enjoys aged Champagne. All grand cru Bouzy fruit, discorged fall of 2016 for a total of 9 years on lees.

Lively effervescence and a healthy pop to the cork. The color is a deep gold, fine mousse. The nose is developed, quite oxidized, and cider-y. Almost smells like apple sauce or stewed pears. There is a pleasant bread note that is unfortunately dominated by a sort of acetone type sweetness. The palate is complex, lots of yellow fruit and pleasant brioche notes, red cherries, all of which are very nice, but these compete with oxidative nuttiness that, to me, are a bit overboard. And it's all topped off with a volatile nail polish remover smell/flavor that is not nice. Can't tell if this is a flaw of volatile acidity or just an aroma from too much age.Started drinking the wine rather cold, but additional air and warming up just kill the mousse and accentuate the acetone even further.

It's too bad, bc you can tell that there is nice material underneath it all. Seems like perhaps this bottle is just a bit too old for its own good. The 2007 vintage was pretty mediocre in Champagne from what I gather, many houses did not bottle any vintage wine that year. I've had this in my cellar for nearly 3 years- I'd say that's about 3 years too long...

  • Ottima bottiglia, acidità ancora elevata e che fa pensare ad un buon potenziale di invecchiamento. Nota rustica è un po’ ossidativa, tipica del produttore, che da quel tocco da “vigneron”.
    Niente male
