A private tasting (Buurtcafé De Tros, Amsterdam, NL): Organic and biodynamic viticulture. Very perfumed on the nose, lifted and floral, quite a contrast with the weighty and powerful palate (14.5% ABV), salty and delicately nutty, wonderful varietal expression, cool minerality, the finish shows some oak, excellent resonance and length. A more classical style of Jura Chardonnay.

Fragrant, but slightly heady nose with flavors of lemon, green apple, dried flowers, chamomile, and minerals. High acidity with chalky/rocky notes, more citrus, lemon, and grapefruit. The alcohol (15% if I recall correctly) is noticeable but not obtrusive. Long finish. Very delicious wine that shows the ripeness of the year but remains elegant. 94+

Light straw yellow colour. White flowers, peaches, ripe yellow apples, toast and minerals on the nose. Taste of ripe yellow apples, white flowers, peaches, minerals and spices. Fresh acidity. Fantastic rich and complex. Very long and dry finish. Goes well with fish, shellfish or cheeses.

Blind. A lot of artificial candy on the nose, gasoline/plastic, sweet-and-sour , some wool; much better in the mouth, good grip, high acid.

Paul & Keith’s Old World v New World Chardonnay Challenge (La Trompette, London): Blind. Guessed OW. Initially quite full. Ripe and tropical with a touch of apple juice, becoming really quite cidery. NR. Returning after an hour though , this has blown off and is showing classic Tissot. ****
