Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Leoville Las Cases Dinner; 10/26/2018-10/27/2018 (Troquet on South): This was the highlight of the night, and we opened the two bottles of the Grand Vin alongside this flight of single varieties that had been kept in the Delon family cellar for 32 years. I cannot underscore enough what a special opportunity this was, and many thanks to Ian & Guy at Gordons for organizing an event around the Caisse Cepages.

Cabernet Franc - Great earthy soil, bell pepper, cracked pepper and dry leather notes.

Petit Verdot - Intense, inky and spice laden with star anise and clove coming out strongest.

Cabernet Sauvignon - Actually the least interesting of the single varieties, but delivers the pure blackberry and cassis notes in spades with some leafy tobacco and herbs.

Merlot - An exceptional wine in its own right the red fruited cherry and creamy plum notes bring a sexy element to the grand vin. Cocoa and a kiss of sweet oak make this delicious.

If you are fortunate to own one of the 85 cases that were shipped to customers please open this and enjoy it. The wines really are in top form and if we had fewer people I would have been more inclined to experiment with blending, but the pours were dear and I really wanted to relish trying this wine deconstructed.
