  • Winorama: A winter in Wineland III; 1/4/2019-1/13/2019 (Portland/Willamette, Eureka, Napa): Definitely a beautiful bottle and packaging and set up in a way that would encourage collectors (each label is a different part of a picture and so can collect the pieces you are interested in). To me it was a nice cab. Very fruity. Lots of berries - blueberry and raspberry and cranberry. There's some more almost mint-style notes as well and just a touch herbal. It does come across as 'fresh' although that could be because wine was served a bit on the cooler side which I find helps with that balance. Agree price seems a bit steep for the quality of the wine, but it is young and I'm sure will evolve some more.

  • PnP with dark, ripe black core fruit, with a rich, chocolatey plum-driven attack; some barely discernible spice emerged as well. There was a bit of an over-ripe plummy effect on the back end that stifled any real complexity of flavor from coming out. The overall delivery was fat and a bit flabby. Youth to blame? I'm not entirely sure. Unfortunately not the best showing in my opinion.

These wines are all dressed up in Magnum format, beautiful, artistic labels, and a cool fabric box that would look great as a centerpiece in any cellar. And it has the price tag to prove it. And yet, this could have been one of 100 of any of the Napa Cabernets coming out of the 2014 vintage. A lot of ripe fruit; so much so that its muddled profile laid heavy on the palate for me.

Benoit Touquette (who is an obvious talent in other ventures) is the winemaker here. This was a miss for me overall. It was "ok" to some degree, but from a QPR and higher expectations standpoint, it's a pass. 88-90 points. Hold for a couple of years in hopes that it sheds some of the overly-plush weightiness.
