I guess this is an Australian take on Amarone, attempting to capitalize the appassimento craze in the Nordics? 14,5% alcohol, 8 g/l residual sugar and 5,9 g/l acidity. Tasted blind in VV.
Luminous, translucent ruby red color. Quite complex and pretty attractive nose with aromas of ripe blackberry-driven aromas of dark fruits, some minty herbal notes, a little bit of plummy dark fruit, a lifted hint of eucalyptus and a touch of smoke. The wine is full-bodied, lush and even somewhat cloyingly sweet on the palate with medium-dry flavors of cherry marmalade, some green minty notes, a little bit of raspberry juice, light chocolatey oak tones, a cooling hint of eucalyptus and a touch of ripe blackberries. The wine is lacking quite a bit in structure, thanks to the modest acidity and very soft and easy tannins. The finish is barely grippy, soft and lush with quite long, off-dry flavors of blackberry jam, some cherry marmalade, a little bit of mocha oak, light minty green notes, a hint of eucalyptus.
The nose here was pretty attractive, but the wine turned out to be quite a disappointment on the palate. You'd expect a wine like this to be a concentrated, muscular and tannic beast, but it turned out to be soft, sweet and easy crowdpleaser with no sense of place and very little in the way of structure. Utterly boring stuff. Waste of money at 20,49€.
