(Caiarossa) Caiarossa Dear Friends, You will hear a lot more about this very unusual wine as the momentum builds in Italy and in France - the US cannot be far behind. The Caiarossa has generated a lot of buzz in Florence (and Bordeaux) as it makes the rounds on the tasting circuit and at private events. We've seen an endless cavalcade of pretenders jump on the Super Tuscan bandwagon over the last 10-15 years and we've generally shied away from most of them but this wine is different and it commands attention (it has also been quite difficult for us to obtain). This is one of those unique examples that rises above the norm - it is trying to do something at the highest end that sets it apart and they've succeeded beyond what I first expected when I was told about this wine while visiting at Chateau Giscours several years ago (this is the hobby project of the owners but it has turned into more than a hobby - they are spending most of their time on this as the potential seems endless). I tasted the 2003 Caiarossa last year in Italy and found it to be too in-line with the vintage (over-ripe and angular at the same time) but I was told the 2004 was really something special and (it turns out) they were not just blowing smoke. There has been so much hype already over the 2004 vintage in Tuscany that I don't need to stoke the flames any further. Compared to the 2003, the 2004 Caiarossa is like a beautiful clear spring day vs. a hot and humid August night. It is structured, aware and full of the bright energy that should give it the deep-toned bones to age (although most of you will be enamored with its intensity and charms right now - just decant for 2-3 hours). It is a big, tannic wine but the use of Alicante and Mouvedre in the blend gives this wine a stand-out style that will appeal to everyone from Left Bank Bordeaux enthusiasts to those that lean toward Pride Reserve Claret or Quilceda Creek. A shinning success - literally. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for unusual style, regal upbringing and potential ONE SMALL SHIPMENT ONLY directly from the source: 2004 Caiarossa (Toscana) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy7977
