Re-tasting some VA Governor's Cup wines: This has progressed nicely since I last tasted. Definitely one of the more Touraine-esque Cab Francs from Virginia I've tasted recently. Aromatically, lots of tobacco, soy and herbs on top of cherries and currants. Full-bodied with bright acidity and grippy tannins, balanced nicely but plenty of time ahead. Tart red and black cherries and plums mixed with coffee grounds, chewing tobacco, pencil shavings, soy and mint. Fresh and vibrant.

Virginia Governor's Cup Wines: Light purple color. Lots of tobacco, soy, roasted herbs and tobacco on the nose, with tart red and black cherries. Full-bodied (14.5%) with fleshy tannins, fresh acid, and a core of tart black cherries and plums. Rich, velvety fruit, topped in tobacco leaf, cedar, pencil lead, coffee. Accessible now or hold for a few years. Includes 10% Merlot, the wine is aged 15 months in a mix of new and second-fill French oak.

Full of bright red fruit...cherry, strawberry, cassis but fairly one dimensional. A nice quaffable weekend wine.
