  • Blockbuster nose: dried apricot, ripe lemon, apple pie, shortbread, and just a touch of olive brine. Complex and rich, with a very long finish.

  • Light gold. Pure, racy, fine fizz but does not have the broad shoulders and depth I think I was expecting and hoping for. Youthful, not evolved at all really. It is highly tart, but no less quaffable for that and I quite like having something different. I'd describe it as middle of the road, ticks all boxes but does not scream premium in the same way as the LGPS that preceded it. At airline lounge Heathrow T5.

  • British Airways has bought this to replace the perfectly serviceable LP Grand Siècle in their Concorde Room at Heathrow T5. I get the impression that sooner or later they’ll end up buying their champagne from Aldi. Anyway, the first impression here is not great - thin, tart and lacking richness compared to something like LPGS. Having said that, there is a genuine sense of quality here - though you really have to search for it on both nose and palate. Fleeting hints of apricot, wet rocks and toast are perceptible through a veritable Berlin Wall of acidity. Part of me thinks that this is just too young and it will age amazingly. I hope so.

  • Pale gold with glints of amber. Quite rich on the nose - lemon Turkish delight, orange blossom, apricot jam, dried peaches, quince, toasted brioche. It’s obvious it’s an outstanding wine even before tasting it. Complex on the palate, more savoury and herbaceous notes than on the nose, but with all the glorious dried fruit and rich pastry character you’d expect. Long finish. Drier than I was anticipating. Rather gorgeous.
