“Here’s one for those who like them nice and rich. Very deep crimson colour, plush and opulent, a wine dialed up to 11. The nose is a heady swirl of blackcurrant pastilles, lavender bushes and rubbed sage. The fruit is fleshy, muscular and densely packed. There’s a lovely puff of fruit sweetness on the back palate and plenty of wood but it’s very good wood. The wine revels in its forthright brick dust tannins, proportioned out in quantities entirely appropriate to the weight and power of the fruit. They may seem a little tough now but will retreat back into the plushness of the wine in time.”
