  • Light aromas of pear and green apple and wet stone but also a kind of funky wet cardboard. Wine probably corked.
    Medium+ acid
    Medium+ body
Quite a rich mouthfeel and subtle oak (nutty) flavours can be detected on the palate; the palate more interesting than the nose
Medium+ finish of apple and subtle nuttiness
A creditable but not outstanding 1er cru. Paired nicely with sushi

  • Domaine des Malandes dinner with Amandine Marchive (Chicago, IL): From a southwest-facing site, planted in 1953, some of the oldest vines of the domaine. This plot is generally the first harvested, owing to its exposure, and the earlier harvest helps to preserve some of the freshness. Of the 2016s tasted tonight, this is clearly the wine that shows the most fruit -- it is a broad and exuberant character, and the acidity here is slightly attenuated in the context of the other wines. However, there's still more than enough to carry the weight. It's a fairly in-your-face kind of wine, but that's not necessarily bad.
