  • 3 of 3 winebid bottles bad. Older whites via auction: You are dead to me!

  • Light gold color with fat legs in the glass. Nice mix of aromas: lemon, lychee nut, pine needles, a little petrol, very complex. A bit nutty on the palate, and quite bold. It almost feels like a medium-tannin green tea. Medium acid, enough to keep it fresh, but this is not a tangy wine. Some more mature flavors: dried apple, lemon tea, lychee nut, honeycomb and a dash of minerals. This is a solid St. Joseph blanc. If I had another, I'd probably give it a year, but no more, just because the fruit on this 2005 seems to be waning.

  • Pale gold. Dusty nose. Very thin and watery. Aeration made worse. Not oxidized, just empty, watery, blah. No mid palate, no finish. Flaw? Try another bottle. Update, bottle 2; better, but not great. Dusty nose, clear oxidative qualaties. Again that watery, empty blah middle and end. Very unsatisfactory; lesson learned (?) No more buying older whites!

  • Really an eye-opening wine, pale yellow, good bouquet of hazelnuts, apricots, peaches and other yellow fruits, a touch of honey and nutmeg and a hint of lime zest to give it a hint of mouth-wateringness before you even taste it. Medium-bodied, richly flavored and well-balanced with good fruit and acidity (and a 30-sec. finish), this wine was a hit with coq au vin and would pair well with even heavier dishes. Happy to have one bottle left in the racks.

  • Faint golden colour. Medium intense nose, peaches and some alcohol. Fatty, plenty of glycerin, a lack of fruit on the palate and some bitterness. More bitterness on the aftertaste, that is not very complex or pleasing.
