I can lay claim to a pretty exclusive anthology of tasting notes on this White Rose, which numbers among the very first wines from one of our favourite wineries that we tried on our first visit there. At the lower echelon of their products, it nonetheless exudes ample evidence of what makes Oregon PN so desirable. It fills the glass with a voluptuous aroma, not exactly sophisticated, but spicy with some warm dusty garrigue notes; on the palate red berry flavors, sweet, juicy, nice acidity. And that is the last of it.

Looks like I'm the only one who has been adding notes on this particular beverage for the past four years, just two bottles left. One emerged during reorganization of the bottles. Clear palish red color, the nose as ever pungent like a fist of Mediterranean herbs; on the palate quite brash, a tart red cherry attack that mellows and lingers a bit, some Oregonian funk as they say. Rounded a bit with the little age on it.

Dulcie delivers a spectacular plate of pasta with various woodsy mushrooms and shaved Parmesan. Argument ensues as to the wine, but inevitably an Oregon pinot wins. The Vista Hills is one of our favourites for the simple dinner and has enough of the forest murmurs to complement the dish at hand. Deep cherry red with ebullient gamy nose, bright almost sweet cherry, raspberry, some spice, acidity. I guess we are one of the few.

Bottle number five of one of our first White Rose acquisitions. We like it because of its sporting price combined with its vivid character. Warm dark purplish red color, reasonable clarity. The aroma is spicily pungent. This bottle seemed good right from the get-go, no need for extensive aeration, dark cherry fruit, cedary, garrigue-ish notes. It recalled, amazingly, a 1982 St Estephe we had a few weeks ago, which is completely improbable.

Opened in a rash-ish moment to accompany some little delectation that Dulcie had concocted. Familiar slightly smokey, Mediterranean herbal scent, medium purple-red with just a hint of dustiness about it. Bit alarmed at first that it is over the hill - my cellaring or its age? - there was a sharpness in the finish and an absence of the splendid ripe cherry at first. Over time it emerged and the components came into balance. A pleasant relief.
