Finally, a dessert wine Marybeth likes! Less sweet and certainly less viscous than most fortified wines, this was dominated by delicious almond and toasted coconut notes, plus ginger and pomelo. Elegant and balanced.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of light amber colour, with greenish rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium intensity aromas of floral notes of rose, citrus fruit of lemon zest and orange marmalade, dried fruit of raisin and fig, sweet spice of ginger, oak notes of toast, oxidation notes of caramel. The wine is developing. Palate: Sweet with high acidity, the wine has high alcohol, full body and medium intensity flavours of citrus fruit of orange peel and lemon zest, dried fruit of raisin and fig, floral notes of rose, maturity notes of honey, sweet spice of ginger. The wine has a medium (+) finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Ratafia de Champagne with a reasonably intense nose showing good complexity, with lemon zest and orange peel starting, followed by fig and ginger, with roses throughout and good toasty and caramel bringing on the finish. The wine is strong in alcohol, but having good sweetness balanced well with the acidity, having decent concentration of flavours and a fairly long finish. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 10-15 years.

It tastes like what it is, a fortified grape spirit. I normally enjoy Vilmart champagne, btw. Citrus and yellow apple aromas and raisins. Some oxidative notes. Medium bodied Medium sweet palate Very good length This is a decent wine but nothing particularly special despite the progeny
