This is a point right now. Still showing fruit, but the structure is largely resolved. Good smoke and minerality on the nose with some meaty elements. Fleshy and mouth filling. Goood Stuff.

Very solid wine. Took a while to open up. Not at all rustic or Corton-like. Was expecting some funk and a mean machine, but this showed pure fruit with some good intensity and a nice long finish. The fruit is still on the primary side with only hints of secondary flavors. Good solid backbone bodes well for further evolution in the cellar. Wait another 2-3 years maybe...

If the 89 de Vogüé is a “masculine” wine, the 89 Corton-Renardes is definitely a “feminine” wine. I really loved it. Everything about it was exactly the way I like. For a Leroy, it seemed to open up a little faster than I expected in the nose. Tannins though integrated need time to soften. Flowers, minerals and the smell you get in really old cellars – were all part of the fantastic aromas this wine provided. I always seem to really go nuts when sniffing a Leroy. I loved it. Huge in the mouth but within that lovely elegant feel. Very fruity and concentrated. So much there – too much to comprehend. Superb balance. Found it really complex, and a “serious” wine in a way. If you have a bottle .. you are lucky I don’t and I wish I had cases of this wine. This wine needs time though.. I think 2010 seems reasonable, thought might even be earlier. It really should be left alone for now. To me this one is a 97/100, and a wine I truly enjoyed.
