  • Asadero with Adam and Sid: Mmmm, deep, smoky, ash and earth, a soulful and dusky nose. Compact yet intense. Palate is mineral, reserved, rather dark and brooding. Finish has incredible red fruit, bright acid, shrill at first, but utterly vibrant and wonderful with steak and bone marrow. I kept coming back to Allemand in terms of the acidity and purity on display. This was not a wine of ease and pleasure but was elegant, taut, and focused.

  • Just fantastic! More elegant and refined than typical cornas at this age, but it’s a beautiful wine to drink, wonderful nose of violets, spices, pebbles, dark berries with some smoked meat in the background, medium body, with great freshness and length, tannins are there but so well integrated at this point texture is silky smooth- plenty of upside from here too

  • Only gave it maybe 2 hours of air and it could have used more or some yea4 in the cellar I’m certain. The nose was really popping though, just intoxicating. Dark cherry fruit but certainly in a leaner traditional style that says I’m from the old country. The pure lean fruit seems to allow a mineral streak to show here, but not an olive or funk in the mix here. Really elegant and refined for a traditional Cornas.I’ll check in again in maybe 3-5 years.

  • Phew! Got a few of these from Sommpicks and they arrived recently, so I popped one last night. I was pretty disappointed -- dull, inchoate, a wine in search of a purpose. The nose was mute and the wine flat and uninspiring. Over the course of a few hours it got better -- some sharper definition, bringing some more obvious Syrah characteristics into focus -- but it didn't quite pull itself together so I put the wine away, muttering curses at Sommpicks as I drifted off to sleep. Now it's a day later and I'm back in the ring and bang! - this is just what it ought to be: dark, rugged, and savory Cornas with a capital C. Totally on point and exactly what I had hoped for. (I still love you, Sommpicks.)
