  • Drunk for lunch with sausages and roast vegetables. 14.5%. Cork also broke in two but there was no evidence of seepage. Deep, dark garnet. Still remarkably youthful for its age. Leaf mould, earth, leather and stewed dark fruits. Carried its alcohol well. Tannins were well integrated. It will easily keep going another 10 years. Neither a wine to question or to challenge the drinker - just overall a very smooth wine that's easy to drink.

  • Flower Day - lower neck fill. Cork broke in 1/2 on removal. Ingress of wine about 1/2 way up cork however the top of the cork was pink so some wine made it up through the cork. Decanted off a small amount of hard sediment. Dark garnet core that extends almost to medium width crimson edge. This wine is incredibly youthful looking. Right after the decant the nose is warm earth, leaf mould, tobacco, spice and black fruit. On the palate the dark fruit and tobacco with some leather hits first, then the spice. It’s full bodied with medium acidity and still ripe tannins. On the long finish there is tobacco, leather, dark fruit and warming spice with oak. I can’t believe how youthful this wine is with the rich fruit, oak flavours and ripe tannins yet there’s also a maturity that shows complexity.
After an hour there’s some Brett showing but it’s not off putting as there’s more fruit showing and it mitigates it’s effect. The Brett continues on the tongue but as I’m sensitive to it I’ll not mark down the wine for it as most wouldn’t notice it.

  • Most of the fruit has left & definitely all the tannins, leaving a pleasant, fruit-forward, well-integrated quaffer

  • Big, bold, low acidity, non-complex and short monster.
    Went well with pizza.
    Slightly better than "Good".

  • Great wine. Red fruits, spices, earth, bitter chocolate. Long finish. Drinks like a much younger wine. Wish I had known to hold it another ten years. Fantastic.
