  • Like so many Alexis Lichine bottling from this era, this is picture-perfect burgundy with strawberry and orange fruit remnants with a lilting autumn leaf/hickory smoke that takes you to the damp woods immediately! A touch of brown sugar and regrettably an oxidative note that comes out a bit too strong to give this a fair chance. The style and maturity are in the zone right now, though! So haunting and compelling for this level! 92 points for assuming a less-oxidative profile.

  • Not at all characteristic of several other bottles I’ve had of this (all 375 ml splits, like this one). Perhaps I overreacted to an initial highly oxidative nose I originally got, But that seemed to blow off considerably to reveal a pretty decent little wine beneath. Tasting partner liked it much better, will try another bottle soon to see if this was just the odd bottle (half bottle really).
