  • This still shows a sweet core of pure fruit, red tinged, hints of cranberry, some tar and coffee at the finish. Largely resolved with silky, fine tannins. It is not over the hill at all but also seems like it to time to drink while still fresh.

  • Hmm, I have enjoyed this more in the past. Perhaps it suffered for being opened right after a simply glorious bottle of 2002 Montelena Estate Cab. Very bright aromatics, much more high pitched than the brooding Monty. There is a very nice core of fruit here, but while the Monty screamed of classic Cabernet this was more grapey, slightly sweet, stressing acid over tannin and just a much lighter and different animal. I wanted to like it a bit more, and certainly it is a very nice wine. But for whatever reason on this night and this bottle it was strong but not really stacking up. (Sorry Ross!)

  • Very strong showing. A touch of earth and funk on a nose that is deep with licorice, cassis and a whiff of tobacco. The palate is gorgeously pure Cabernet, deep, sulking, yet finishing bright with wonderfully silky tannins. This is still somewhat young and a touch chewy, but is fantastically delicious. Nice job Ross!

  • Was still drinking well, although I imagine that it would have been better a couple years ago. Didn't seem to quite have the tannin structure to hold up. There wasn't much in the mid-palate and not much body. In no way terrible, though.

  • I don't remember every bottle of wine I opened in 2009, but I think this may be the best of the year (remember, this is December). We let the bottle come to room temperature and decanted for about 2 hours. Great with standing rib and wonderful for sipping after the table was cleared. If properly stored this wine will keep for some additional years.
