A rather muted nose. The palate is tannic and sour but there is some blackberry fruit. I kinda enjoy it. Gideon - please don't tell me it will improve over the next generation! Lol.
We were not overly in love with the funkiness and drying pithy characteristics. There is definitely an underlying complexity and this Syrah carries deep blackberry and logan berry with it but you have to seek it out. This might improve with a good pairing of soft cheese.
Third Coast Soif (Chicago, IL): Black fruit, with something that evokes sandiness on the palate. The syrah perfume is somewhat muted here, but there's good depth on the palate.

Drank over 3 nights. First night lots of reductive syrah funk, there is clearly something nice going on behind there though the reduction masks it. Night 2 and 3 the reduction blows off, beautiful peppery, gamey, but not-really-olive-y fruit shows up, with a very bright floral lift going on (hello viognier). Night 3 starts to show some of where this will end up in a few years (even better).
