One of the many bottles I brought home from my two trips to South Africa this year.
Matured for nine months in 228L Burgundy Oak Barrels. 1.8 g/L RS vs 5.5 g/L TA.
Tasting note from the producer: "The Haute Cabrière Pinot Noir Réserve 2015 shows intense dark fruit, cigar box and mocha notes. The tannin structure is full and round, with a long dry finish. The wine is drinking substantially well and can age for a further 3-5 years."
Interestingly, the bottle label suggests a cellaring time of 5-8 years, which seems more realistic. Otherwise I completely agree with the cigar box note, which was quite strong (after 2.5 h decant in the glass). In addition, this PN felt smooth and mellow, and I got earthy cherry notes as well.
Given the light brown fringes and turbidity I assume that this is mid to end drinking window.
