  • This wine reminds me of why I drink cab franc from Chinon.

Lovely and complex nose with red and black fruit, perfume of violets, herbs, licorice, smoke and green pepper. The palate is medium-plus-bodied and very fruity. It has a bit of sweetness that is nicely balanced by a good acidity. Nice balance. Elegant tannins. Long finish. (92-93)

  • Pulled a bottle on a whim as this (& the next vintage) had been so well reviewed here. Damn! I agree that this does pack quite a punch and is a gorgeous, if possibly slightly atypical Chinon!? Ripe succulent fruits, dark cherries, raspberry liquor, and as the reviewer below states, 'perfectly balanced acidity'....also a satisfying earthiness that stops it from tasting confected. What struck me, perhaps most of all, was how well it was drinking from the first pour at such a young age - this is fully open, seductive, and had thrown a fair amount of very fine sediment (so worth standing up for a day b4 drinking)....n.b. It is pretty ripe & pretty sweet and treads a thin line of being overly so, but I think it manages it, also the sweetness is of a succulent, juicy sort, counterbalanced by lots of fresh acidity (a bit like some Chianti Classicos from 2016) rather than the candied sort that I abhor. I love Loire Cab Franc & drink a lot of it (mostly with more bottle age), but have fairly catholic tastes - it would be interesting to see what a more committed traditionalist made of this ?

  • This wine is a bit of a unicorn with only 2500 bottles produced, but if I could, I'd buy them all! This is by far the best Chinon I have ever tasted. No grassiness or tannic punch, full bodied and quite a punch of flavor, cherry and strawberry liquor in the back and perfectly balanced acidity.
