Burgundies, Blanc et Rouges (Sta. Rita Hills, CA): Served double blind. If I didn't know our Burgundy theme, I would have placed this in Piedmont, despite the lack of tannic structure. Everything else screamed "Nebbiolo" to me: fennel, flower petals, dense dark berries. A really tasty wine I was glad to enjoy, but no typicity. Color me confused.

From glass. Not promising nose of green and garbagey notes, and attenuated red fruits. Palate features nice broad cranberry and clear, leathery notes and general savory flavors. But fairly watery. Purer perhaps than decent 25-35USD Oregon pinot, but the question of better would be a tossup.

Young, not completely closed but shy. Day one showed some vosne spices and dark florals, some black cherry like fruit, but fairly short on the palate. Day two started out almost without flavor or aromatics, but once warmed up in the glass, became more chambolle like than vosne with airy rose petal and strawberry flesh gaining some weight and length with a darker fruit profile given lots of air. Not grand cru density at this time and in a bit of an odd spot I would think but still shows 1er chambolle like with air, not powerful but elegant.
