  • Much improved since first tasting where I was not impressed - it clearly needed several months in bottle to develop

    Now showing the complexity derived from concrete and sur lie treatment, on top of delicious gooseberry fruit

  • Paired with Gai lan (Chinese broccoli), sliced thin, stir fried with garlic and a little chicken broth, finished off with a drizzle of sesame oil, Himalayan salt and a dash of Kenyan chili pepper) and Italian stuffing for Thanksgiving - an eclectic pairing, but I refused to bring green bean casserole. The bright acidity helped cut the sweetness of the pumpkin pie. Served slightly chilled (90 as an aperitif, 91+ with food).

  • just shipped so perhaps a bit too soon

    give it air

    on opening was simple and backend just heat from alcohol

    but this blossoms after an hour and tropical notes come on the nose and fruit and acidity on the palate and the heat recedes

  • Gooseberry, grass and lime but all integrated, in concert and not too forward, with peppery notes sneaking in on the finish. Spent 18 months in cement eggs--14.2% abv but it doesn't show. Very sophisticated and instantly at the top of WA Sauv B's.

  • I am a relatively new Sauv Blanc drinker so don’t have a huge library to compare this first vintage of Upchurch’s Southwest Facing Sauv Blanc against. It has a bright acidity that I’d say reminded me of a tart or somewhat, dare I say, sour grapefruit. Very dry and much more flavor than I expected. I think this wine paired better with a soft goat cheese than just sipping on its own.
