  • This chateau seems to improve year by year. Typical medoc/ st. Estèphe, nose (dark fruit, lavender, tabaco, mint). Taste (nice balance and freshness, a bit high on alcohol, loads of red dark fruits, bit of herbs). Really good, especially for a 2017. Like the balance even more than in 2018 and 2020.

  • Beautiful nose of black currant, black berry and roasting tomatoes. Medium-bodied, this is reasonably textured with decent concentration and a decent tug of tannin. Blackberry and spice. Drink now-2029 91

  • deeply colored, ruby rim. aromatically shy shows dark fruits, some barrique spice, dusty/leafy. on the palate high acids, firm midpalate and finishes with a lot of unresolved tannins, moderate alcohol. wine is on the firm side balance wise, short length, ok intensity, good complexity. very st estephe. give this a year or two and try it again then.

  • When they bought Montrose, the manager of Haut Brion said I'll come work to you but only if you buy this winery because its got this big rock soil type to it. Not classified. Second oldest vineyard and owned by Calon Segur. The reason is becuase the owner stood for the King, not the Emperor, and well, the Emperor was the Emperor, and the king was disposed.

And wow, that smells amazing on the nose. Lots of structure, power, beautiful tannins, good acid.

  • Interesting nose of graphite, black currants, balsamic, wood and copious mint. Medium-bodied, this is balanced and delicious and will make an excellent everyday drinker for the next 5-6 years. 91

Edit: with a little warming, more and more black fruits are emerging. I believe I may have underestimated this by a tick. 91-92 (this just arrived a few days ago, so lets see what the next 3-6 months hold).
