Kracher's Pinot Gris is a superb candidate for demonstrating that Austria can make world class Pinot Gris as great as New Zealand and the Loire River Valley in France. Vivid acidity, excel concentration, mouth coating, and well textured, capped by complex fruits of citrus, gooseberry, and sour apple. But do not just pop and pour this wine. Wait at least one full day after opening it before drinking it, in order to get anything better than sour water. Kracher is rightly famous for his world class sweet wines, but this shows he can also make great dry white wines.

P: Med, poss MF, body; VERY RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt invitingly counterbalanced by a VERY slightly spritzy acidity which fairly seamlessly evolves into a LONG, tangy/swt (65:35) finish. LOTS of stuffing for now & through '21, poss more. My EXC-/EXC. 91 pts WE @ $25, 90 Falstaff Magazine, & 86+ WA. [This vendor's $19.95 puts it in the top 1/3 of wine-searcher's postings.]

Kracher is famous as a dessert wine specialist, but this is a dry wine. Began slightly vegetal and bitter, but was much better by 2 days later. Vivid acidity, bright citrus fruit, with a long mouth scrubbing finish.

Intense yellow
Lemon pith, mineralogy, sea spray oyster sgells, yellow apple and peach , honey, ginger
Slight spritz, oily full bodied mouthfeel, slight sour/bitter note, medium plus acidity and alcohol but slight heat in the finish,
3.8-interesting and well balanced for a Pinot gris
