  • Has all the ripping acidity you expect from an aligoté, but with a bit more body than most (Pataille, de Villaine, etc). Still well balanced and refreshing. Would buy again despite the premium for Ramonet name on the label.

  • Disclaimer: I received about 2 glasses left in the bottle that had been recorked after opening 4 days prior, so this might have impacted the wine negatively.

Overall this was just a tad weird to me, and it did not live up the price - especially not compared to some of the "new Aligoté kids on the block" like Chantereves, Petit-Roy, De Moor and even Pataille.

The fruit felt reduced/lost. There was a fine acidity with a fine lightness and minerality at first, but then a weird mix of bitterness, burnt rubber, apple pit and green banana starts happening.

From other wine friends it seems these should be drunk young and it also seems like a general consensus to stay away from the warm vintages.
At this price I'd much rather spend my money on other Aligotés!

  • Didn't enjoy this nearly as much as bottle a few months ago. What was in tension is now in opposition - minerality is oiliness, richness is now fat.

  • Sick. Objectively, this is a bit scratchy as the Ramonet style of power and opulence does compete with the core facets of Aligoté. That said, the terroir and minerality shine through and there is a stylistic gloss that accents rather than hides it. Beautiful wine.

  • Hard to believe that this is Aligoté frankly, it is much more refined than that with less stringent acidity. It has the crispness you want, but the citrus is toned down to make it extremely delicious. A touch of reduction still, not sure I've ever knowingly recognised that on an Aligoté, and as such it reminds me much more of a Cote d'Or wine. I wonder if a couple of years ago that searing acidity the grape is known for might still have been dominant, but today it is a supple and very moreish wine with everything in harmony and that is drinking really well. My first from this producer, and hopefully not the last.
