  • Dark blackish ruby red in appearance with a restrain nose of muted dark red fruits, with some roasted meaty, and somewhat gamey characteristics. The palate is full medium-bodied, refreshingly acidic and quite drinkable at this juncture but does contain ample fine-grained tannins to last for at least the midterm. The flavor components of this red Rioja is dominated by savory dark red fruits with lots of rich vanilla cream (American oak?) with secondary characteristics of boiled meat, animal fur, cumin powder, peppery spices, without much minerality as I was expecting. These impressions were taken literally after uncorking the bottle with less that 30 mins of aeration. I’d love to try this again tomorrow, perhaps a little more air would open things up a little bit more.
The brambly characteristics became more prominent while the acidity became more overbearing on the second day. Somehow the acidic qualities became way too much for my liking.

  • Schöner direkt gestrickter Rioja, viel weniger ausladende Aromen als der gleichzeitig getrunkene 2010er. Aber auch schön und gut.
