Aromatics evolved here over days as well. Started out with a blast of campfire, pepper and spice with red fruit and florals in the background. Third day and it is all gorgeous floral and red fruit aromas with pepper playing the supporting role. The palate here is clearly Syrah to me but has the elegance of burgundy. The elements all sing their own pure notes and the harmony is gorgeous. This too needs a lot of air and the structure was even greater than the Cornas.

First of six. PnP. Wanted to check in as I have not had a Halcon before. For my taste opening now is a bit of an academic exercise. It needs more time, five years at least. It has very good substance and think it will drink very well in the future. The palate is medium bodied with nice acidity. Has a bit of a stemmy character that needs time to integrate. I saved enough for one glass, corked the bottle, and sampled it two days later. It still tasted young but the pieces were a little easier to discern. Herbal and a bit of smokey pepper character. Finish is quite mineral. Lots of potential.

peppery syrah with citrus fruit, predominated by grapefruit; grippy tannins and nice long finish.
on PnP, too bold for my taste, but by day 2, settled down to a really nice spot. A bit more aging would help or long decant and this will sing. A well made wine.

Opened but not decanted about three hours prior to dinner. Notes of white pepper and blueberry on the nose and palate. Great value here.

Under $50 Syrah Smackdown (Halcon Triumphant Over Rhône!) (Columbia Heights): Dark garnet and opaque. Gutsy aromas of Smoke and roasted game and iron. A rich and deep palate of moody dark red fruit and iron with youthful grip and a lengthy bright and energetic finish. My favorite of the night!
Opened and decanted 2 hours before starting and tasted over 3 additional hours
