Kermit Lynch, the importer, noted that though this producer was well thought of in France he generally escapes notice from American critics who favor extract and power over restraint. That sure came home when we tasted this 100% marsanne wine: medium bodied stone fruit, clean and lithe, no sharp edges, "beyond reproach" said one. Excellent.

Wine in the time of Corona Virus - Quarantining in NYC & NH; 3/7/2020-9/1/2020 (NYC/NH): Opened for the Thursday Zoom with friends. Enjoyable St. Joseph Blanc, but find a touch of bitterness on finish (not too much but noticeable) for the price point $46 - I would prefer the Monier-Perreol as this is just a bit less complex. Interesting just looked back at my last note on this and I had essentially the same thoughts.

Wine in the time of Corona Virus - Quarantining in NYC & NH; 3/7/2020-9/1/2020 (NYC/NH): So clearly a Northern Rhone white - with the richness particularly noticeable after finishing the remainder of the PYCM Bourgogne Blanc to start. White peach stone fruit and some touch of bitterness or pith on the finish. Of the St. Joseph Blancs, I would not repurchase this at $45 price. Much happier with the Chave Circa and Monier Perreols at similar or lower price. So okay but not a wow.

Really in a nice place right now with just a hint of oxidation to the point where it adds complexity but doesn't dominate. Lovely wine. Drink now.

A week in the Northern Rhone; 12/7/2018-12/15/2018 (Lyon, Vienne, Ampuis, Chavanay, Hermitage, Cornas, St. Joseph, Condrieu & Paris): From the glass list at Freddy’s wine bar (Paris). Golden yellow, typical Marsanne stone fruit notes, with some light perfume on the nose. Nice for by the glass pour but does not have the complex minerality of the Gonon St. Joseph Blanc.
