Del Dotto Tasting + Barrels & Beasts; 10/5/2018-10/6/2018: From barrel. Block 2. Similar to the Vicard version of this wine I had the previous day, the St. Helena Mountain Darnajou provides both focused structure and exacting concentration, with a layered complexity that pushes its flavors energetically across the palate.
The Darnajou barrel works very well with this wine, with some subtle spice notes and a silky vanilla texture able to house the flavors nicely. The lift and energy are especially notable here. Grippy and zippy, but not so much that it loses a sense of finesse and depth.
94-95+ points, with upside in 3+ years.
