  • Crazy delicious Riesling that combines power and elegant structure. Tropical fruit to start, but more of an apple and lemon finish, this has significant sweetness, but finishes with a bright hit of acidity. Perfect foil for some homemade chicken biryani. Drink now and for the next fifty years.

  • The nose isn't too tropical, and instead features some more typical North American orchard fruits, with a bit more of an apple and pear sort of tone, though you do find a hint of pineapple as well. This isn't a bracing and laser-focussed riesling, but instead there's a lovely balance of acidity and creaminess on the palate here. Fairly sweet but not over the top, and not cloying at all. This isn't the most stellar vintage here, but this bottle is certainly very impressive.

  • Incredible power, depth and complexity from such a young wine. Nothing heavy here, it floats across the palate while still leaving an impression. Balance is impossibly perfect, and the finish goes on for what feels like hours. Glad to have a bunch of this, as it's a monumental success with decades of life to come.

  • Heavy diesel but complex. Powerful nose but I sense it is slightly more balanced than the spätlese, which wasn't bad by the way. Interesting and uncommon way of harvesting - skipping the Prädikat way of doing things. Gold capsule and, yes, this behaves like an auslese. Needs time and boy was it hot tonight - hard keeping things thoroughly chilled.

  • Incredible ripeness of fruit. Peaches, mangoes, and other tropical fruit; but the acid somehow, almost impossibly balances the sugar and body in a way that seems both biologically and philosophically impossible. I know that this wine will mature and get so much better with age. I know i'm drinking a wine that will get so much better in twenty years, but it is locked and loaded tonight as well.

It's a wine maker's wine. Johannes Selbach is a master and this wine is a beautiful portrait of how a master can manipulate his best grapes into this. Drink whenever the hell you want.
