Color: medium ruby with purple streaks Nose: savory with black cherry, game, bell pepper, roast beef. There is a persistent green note Palate: big structure and youthful. High acidity, medium-high tannins that are grippy and can use some more time to resolve, full bodied. Confirms the nose with some dark fruit Finish: medium-ling tannic and acid
It started out not super clean, with some wet diaper, and then after a couple hours that wafted away. I had this with a meat and mushroom pasta so it worked out, but it's too brusque for drinking on its own - not a fault in my book but be aware

Enjoyed with red leicester and wensleydale. Red fruits, a hint of leather on the nose. There's real structure here, some oomph, but also a generosity that makes it work with rather than against the cheese.
I've failed these wines a few times by having them side by side with Rhone syrahs - this never flatters either - this is definitely in the "Rhone Inspired" camp of CA syrah, but somehow also very much its own thing.

Pretty classic example of CA Syrah that's N. Rhone "inspired". There's undeniable ripe fruit, but it's built on a foundation of herbal, peppery and leather / tobacco tertiary notes. The gamy meaty touches are there, but it is still more of a red-ish fruited wine. There's a restraint that really works, medium alcohol and it steers well clear of big for big's sake. The world, or at least California, needs more wines like this.
This needed every bit of an hour to open up and there's still a bit of slightly grainy tannin that rears up, so I think this could use a year or so and it probably has 5-10 years in it. The acid is unremarkable, so that's my only reluctance for longer aging.
Side note, the squatty bottles are a pain for storage.

Decanted and consumed over 1 hour. Gorgeous aromas of cotton candy and violets. Flavors of red/black raspberry, earth, and spice that finishes with smooth tannins. Light-moderate complexity/finish. Very drinkable now.

Lovely Syrah pepper and spice acros the tart, fresh cranberry and raspberry fruit. A pleasant yoghurt creaminess melts into the fruit as well. Really good stuff.
