  • 2001 Charles Joguet Chinon Les Petites Roches, alc 12%, $18...immediately upon opening the aromas burst forth from the glass....a little barnyard to begin with then replaced with sweet pipe tobacco, cedar notes and a bit of sweet red bell pepper....the palate starts out with reticence then opens up with blueberry, strawberry and fine tannins...the finish is long and builds in intensity....a very nice wine at this point in it's evolut

  • Vegetal - Full flavor - long finish. Some minerals. Great QPR. Still has lots of life in it.

  • My first Chinon. Here are pop and pour impressions straight from the cellar: This is lean, mean and green with dominant notes of tobacco and mineral. The palate is very spicy, acidic and herbal with cherry, tobacco and mineral as the main flavor components. The finish shows drying tannins and continued saline/mineral components. This is actually pretty intriguing, so let's see how this does as it comes up from cellar temperature and is served alongside food. With a few hours this softened on the finish, but otherwise the intial impressions held fairly consistent with a bit more cherry and tartfruit in the mid palate. I have been advised that a day or two of air might do wonders for this, so let's see how this does. For now I am calling this an 87 point recognizing that this is an acquired taste and I am drinking this very early.
