medium purple color. the nose is very explosive with spicy, dark plum and licorice. the wine is almost chewy with ripe fruit, more so than most montepulcianos, with flavors of cherry, plum, licorice and sweet pipe tobacco. mineral hints as well. but it's balanced by great acidity all the way through, ripe tannins and subtle oak. for this price point, this wine is superb and would go well with a lot of food. 13.5% alc.

($30) Light to medium-bodied red wine with a faint tank-fermented aroma. Mediocre. Served with casual Italian food at the Prego restaurant in North Dallas. Notable Margherita pizza. This is probably a $6 bottle of wine.

great dark fruits on the nose. it has some significant tannins, but they're manageable. wonderful berry flavors laced with licorice, spice and smoke. a deal at $14. drinking well now but will do well for three or four years I'd guess.

This is a very ripe style of montepulciano and an excellent value at about $13. Dense red cherry fruit with a pronounced mineral streak and mouthcoating tannins. Might even mistake it for syrah if tasted blind. Will undoubtedly soften with air and time, so I wonder when its peak will be, but its forward fruit is sufficient to offset the rough montepulciano tannins and make it very enjoyable now.

This was an excellent wine from the Italian region. Good from start to finish with excellent color, nose and fruit. The finish was fine too.
