Aerated, then let it slow ox in glass for almost 2hrs. This is a very soft, Grenache-dominated wine. It’s surprising with a blend of 45% Grenache, 40% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and the rest rounded out with other CdP grapes. The almost extreme softness and even sweetness are what throw me off. Red fruits, herbs and iron. I liked it, but it’s not in my Rhône wheelhouse. I grabbed some pate I happened to have for the second half of glass. It went well—needed the pate’s kick. I’m going to have the next bottle around the New Year. We’ll see how that goes.

Decanted for 3 hours. Aromas of roasted herbs, raspberry, plum, melted chocolate and menthol. Flavors of melted chocolate, raspberry, wild cherry, iron and dried herb. Ends with a 35-40 second finish with raspberry Grenache notes. Clos des Papes never disappoints.

Surprised at the softness…. Preceding vintages showed more power. While the Grenache hit is there, a soft ebbing flow of fruit spreads over the palate. The finish is on the jammy side and concerns me over aging potential. I’ll refrain from scoring at this time— I have a mixed opinion .

Wayyy to jammy and fruit bomb. My friend call it a RRV pinot, and I cannot disagree.
