Amazing how well this drinks now. Perfumed nose. Layered cherry, wild strawberry, sweet baking spices, burnt sugar. Precise, layered and focus mid palate with fine tannin. Just fabulous to drink now, but with room for more improvement.

A bit more muted than I was hoping. The star here is the purity and lithe nature. Strawberry, spices and rose bush profile, mouthfeel showed great minerality. Very approachable but will certainly benefit from a few more years

A deeper and more wild nose than the Pommard. Slightly high-toned, plenty of almost-candied red fruit. Real weight of fruit on the palate, which completely fills the mouth, with a hint of rose and exotic bazaar, followed by peppery spice on the finish moving into blackberry crumble - excellent length. All that fruit is nevertheless perfectly balanced by pitch-perfect acidity and finely woven tannins. Probably even more impressive than when I tasted it last year.

Big, bright nose. Delicious and nutty. Really pure sweet strawberry on the nose, almost a sense of eau de vie, though also wild and brambly, then some spice on the palate. Well-integrated, balanced and quite intense. Stony finish. JM would age this at least another ten years, but it's already tremendous.

Domaine visit notes, so only brief impressions. Ethereal, floral, complex nose of farmyard and red fruit. A real success. 94+

2017 reds with Jasper Morris MW (67 Pall Mall TV): Also entirely destemmed.

Jasper on Terroir: Volnay 1er Cru (67 Pall Mall TV): Lots of limestone. Along with Taillepieds (which is directly to the north) it is benefiting from the warming climate.
