  • Recently purchased 12 regular bottles, after drinking two very convincing splits two years ago. Bottle in excellent condition with bottom neck fill and clean and dry cork top. Slow ox'ed for an hour or so. This is very Graves and very 88 Bdx with its leafy body and plenty of herbal notes pointing to a borderline ripe Cab. Tannins are well integrated though. Very satisfying, classic Bordeaux that works great with food. Still at peak, and no rush in drinking well kept bottles.
Again, I feel de Fieuzal is one of the most underestimated and underappreciated left bank Bdx producers, and the leading wine critics seem to be only recently discovering the quality the estate has been producing for at least 40 years.

  • Beautiful nose of creosote, black currants and mint. Medium-full bodied, this is round in the mouth with a gentle tug of tannin and the rudiments of fruit left. There’s a beautiful core of black cherry and Graves-graphite/hot stones. This is a fine old wine, but is certainly on the downswing. Drink now. 89

  • Nice surprise. Drank two half bottles within two or three weeks. Both bottles in perfect condition with in neck fills and corks with only the bottom 1-2 mm soaked. Transparent garnet with a thin clear rim but only minimal browning. Fully resolved tannins and a medium body still showing some fruit together with leather nose. Fairly short finish with only the acidity lingering for a little longer.
Even from a (well cellared) split this seems to be still very much in its peak drinking window. My experience with 88s has been one of somber and fairly rigid and tannic wines which often lack charm and fruit, but this is at the level of more highly regarded mature Bordeaux vintages of de Fieuzal I have had in past years (85, 95, 96). Nice value if you can still find it. Drink over the next 5 years.

  • last bottle of 12 and still superb, level mid-neck, long saturated intact cork, lovely aromas off the cork, classic earthy Graves nose, really fine, classy, so complex, I could just continue to inhale all night, palate elegant, lifted, weightless, so fine, indeed a really fine wine, lovely, sorry to see it go but great to drink the last bottle when still at its peak

  • good level and excellent cork, lovely, voluminous, expansive and complex nose, just explodes out of the glass, palate fine, of medium weight, elegance and class rather than power, perfect balance and lovely persistent aftertaste, fine wine, classic Graves/Pessac, fine, intense but light on its feet
