  • Medium garnet colour.
Nose: Violets, dark red plums, dried red plums, prunes, medium aged strawberry jam, tar, smoke, sweet almonds and marzipan. (89p)
Taste: The arrival is moderately sweet, medium spicy/peppery and presents a mature fruitiness. On the mid palate there is a mix of sweetness and a not-so-sweet “jamminess”. The exit is sweet and spicy (mainly black pepper) and medium long. The wine is nicely balanced but lacking the elegance or finesse of top vintage ports (87p)
The nose is the best part of this 30 year old vintage port which is mature and drinks very well now, but will probably develop for another 5-10 years and keep another 10 years (drink until 2027). Total score 88 points.

  • Not much of a port guy, but this was pretty nice. Not the complexity I was hoping to find in a 20+ year old vintage port. Still rather primary with rich cherry and liquorice dominating the palate. Very tasty, albeit a little bit too cough syrupy for me.
