If someone asked me what Gamay tastes like, I would just give them this bottle and nod sagely. So if you want $16 USD/$22 CAD worth of old vines archetypical Cru Beaujolais, this is your guy. Fresh red and blue fruit, nice acidity, a pinch of dusty tannin. A touch herbal, a bit of gravelly minerality with a touch of black pepper on the finish. A winner for me. No fuss, no muss.

I previously had the 2001 and 2014 vintages of this wine. Not a Beaujolais that I seek out but it was on sale for $10. 75% of the vines owned by the Descombes family are more than 50 years old and planted in the best locations in Beaujolais (La Py, La Roche, La Pillee, Les Pillets and Bellvue). This was better than those previous vintages. Not as flowery as I expected. Garnet red color. Notes of ripe berries, plum and stone fruit. Medium bodied.90 points

Not the best Beaujolais Cru can offer bit a decent match for grilled lamb chops.

Juicy red and dark fruits that prick the tongue mixed with peach some stone-like characteristics. A pretty and quaffable wine. Best on Day 2.
