Over lunch at Wah Lok with ML. This was an absolutely lovely Meursault village - quite firing on all cylinders after 45 minutes of so of time and air. A little tight when first popped, it slowly fanned out in the glass to show a subtle, but very attractive nose of white fruit punctuated with citrussy lemon accents, and then a nice suggestion of mineral, nutmeggy spice and a dollop of fresh cream. It was on the palate were the wine really shone though. Fresh, lively, with a lovely tingly energy lent to it by juicy, lemony acidity, yet at the same time, showing a surprising amount of persistence and creamy depth for a village in its white fruit and lemon curd flavours - this just called out to you to drink one sip after another. It was a great foil for our food too, with the lovely energy and verve from the vintage clearing the palate and pulling the wine away into a long finish laced with a little hint of mineral and just a little sprinkle of that nutmeg spice picked up on the nose. A lovely wine, drinking beautifully now, but still holding the potential to develop more in the bottle. I am not sure it will get better, but it will probably take on a rounder, mellower character in teh coming years. I love the freshness of its youth though. Yummy.

I would echo the comment below. Definitely quite nervy, with a suprising zing for a Meursault. There is a certain tension and restraint here, but the citrus and orchard fruits sit nicely with the chalky minerality. I'd leave this one a few years to simmer down, but it's really quite delicious.

Saline, mineral, orchard fruit, citrus, nervy acid. Excellent for a village wine
