Community Tasting Notes (4)

  • This is impossible to get because Jamie shipped it all to Europe but damn, what a stunning wine. Heck, there's only 10 bottles in cellartracker. Some reduction, lemon and ginger attack backed by grapefruit. Excellent balance wth a really long mouthfeel.

  • July 2019 Kutch Visit (Jamie's Pad in SFO): Drank as part of a complete vertical of all Kutch Chards (14-17, to include Trout Gulch). This was the first designated vintage for TG, although it did play a large role in composing the 2014 SCM Chard, which is a genius wine. Little lift of green herb in the aroma, and following the 2014-2016 Chards, this was the fleshiest of the four for me, even a bit creamy with white pepper, green apple and ginger. Spicy pear in the finish with a supportive apple note....retasted the following morning from the leftover bottle at room temp, this shows a bright, distinct lemon peel, which them marries with the texture to convey some lemon custard. Of note, this wine is labeled at 13.4% ABV, which is about 3/4ths of a point of alcohol higher than the previous three Chards (all were around 12.7%). This also has a wet stone feel to the palate, and is just a little more gentle on the acidity as to compared to the other Chards. Very good.

  • Wow, this is off the hook. Jamie didn't have a enough to offer the list members so he shipped it to Europe. WTF?!? This is amazingly good stuff. Flint nose hints at a Burg and a zesty lime flavor and medium acidity. If this is what Trout produces then he needs more fruit.

  • July 2018 Kutch Visit (Jamie's Pad in SFO): This cuvee is completely Trout Gulch, which coincidentally was the smaller component of Jamie's outstanding 2014 SCM chardonnay that is so lights out good. This Trout Gulch though was made in a very small amount and was sold to Europe so I am not even sure there is much to buy, if at all. Yet, Jamie poured it and we gave it a whirl. Lime, mint, some lemon and good deep tones of citrus and light honey. I liked this but it's not anywhere near the depth and brilliance of the 2014 SCM.
