  • Nicholas Wines Selection: tasted an hour after opening. the nose is closed with just a hint of spice and berry. the wine is medium ruby in color and medium bodied. On the palate are cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate with a hint of spice. There is vibrant acidity which comes across as slightly sour on the finish. The oak treatment is very modest and on point while the tannins from the grapes give the wine good overall structure. The pieces are here but somehow the wine seems disjointed. Perhaps it just needs a few years in the cellar to come together. My overall sense is that the grapes did not reach overall phenolic ripeness and were perhaps picked too early as there is some slight bitterness and the tannins are course as opposed to rounded. This tastes like it came from a cool vintage given the cranberry flavors and the high acidity(sourness) yet the 2016 vintage was not a cool vintage. Overall, I was disappointed with both the aromatics and balance of this wine. I will open another bottle 5 years out and see if this wine comes together
