This is a remarkable wine! Second bottle I've opened and both times I've been quite stunned. Big, full nose. Distinct oxidation, but a very fresh kind of oxidation. Ripe apples, tropical fruit, star fruit, fresh pineapple and pears. There's also plenty of buttery notes, popcorn, butterscotch, candle wax, and children's play-doh clay. Creamy, full bodied, with good acidity and great intensity. Long, long aftertaste and a slight grapefruit/chardonnay bitterness.
Wish I had more.

This bottle didn't have long before it went over the top. Very dark colour - amber, orange. Not elegant but a touch clumsy and heavy. Finish a bit too alcoholic. Still has some fruit and nice hazlenut favours though and was an enjoyable wine. I might be being a bit too harsh on this. Should've drunk 6 months ago but it was still good.

Have always LOVED these wines...but they are on the oaky, big balls side. I haven't had one in quite awhile, maybe 2002??...but always jump on some when the price is right(<$30). This 2006 is just as remembered....rich buttery apricot, peach, baked apple fruit...with a little tropical coconut flare to it. Yes it has a ton of spice vanilla marshmellow oak to it, but PLENTY of dancing acidity to match! Wonderful exotic flavors of Madagascar Vanilla bean, smoky hazelnut butter, flinty minerals, truffle honey. Not the most balanced of wines....it is a big bruiser! But when in the mood for BIG....it works. And much better than what domestic does with big oak Chard...because of the acid and minerals. Fun stuff!

Unfortunately past its prime. Even as a magnum.

Pleasant but lacks the finesse I was hoping for.
