Bright clear mid red showing the earliest signs of ageing. Nose is complex and savoury; spicy, smoky, earthy, with pinot fruit and sappiness showing underneath. This all continues onto the palate, and after some air a much softer cherry fruit emerges. This is a smart, complex and well proportioned wine, perhaps a tad strong on the oak/stemmy characters, at least upon opening, but that is a personal dislike of mine in general. Plenty of time ahead of it.

Burch's BBQ Bonanza (Smokestak): So apparently the conceit is...this is a Premier Cru burg from Yarra Valley. And it seems to be precisely that. The fruit is there, but also some structure and a whiff of the forest floor on the nose. I will look for this again - would like to drink rather than taste and see if it's as enjoyable over several glasses.

Over 3 days, tightly wound on 1&2 opened out on 3 but with more to give. Very pale colour, silky smooth, strawberry, mushroom, light tannins. Time will be kind i think. Lovely.

Very good Pinot. Drinking well now but no need to rush.
