  • Unfortunately there is some sort of premox on an otherwise quite stellar white. Golden coloured the wine shows Madera, nutty oxidative notes covering nice stone fruited, honey infused core. The finish is on the long side but again dominated by the signs of oxidation.
Whether this problem is a result of a poor cork or part of the wine’s personality is a big question that is left open until I get to try another bottle of this wine.

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium lemon-green colour, with wide watery rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of floral notes of honeysuckle, green fruit of pear, stone fruit of peach, mineral notes of waxy, autolytic notes of brioche, kernel notes of roasted almond, herbal notes of fennel, sweet spice of anise. The wine is youthful.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine medium alcohol, medium (+) body and exhibiting medium (+) intensity of flavours of floral notes of honeysuckle, green fruit of pear, stone fruit of peach, sweet spice notes of anise, autolytic notes of brioche, mineral notes of saline. The wine has a medium finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Rhone Saint-Peray Marsanne with an intense nose showing good complexity, with nice floral, green fruit and stone fruit aromas, followed with minerality and herbal, supplemented with some roasted kernel and sweet spice. The palate is well-balanced, with good body and concentration of flavours, ending with a fairly long finish. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 3-5 years.

  • Semi oily. Powerful and long aftertaste. Dry ice tee with whiteflowers and peach.

  • A week in the Northern Rhone; 12/7/2018-12/15/2018 (Lyon, Vienne, Ampuis, Chavanay, Hermitage, Cornas, St. Joseph, Condrieu & Paris): At the Chapoutier tasting room. 100% Marsanne - 50% in used oak demi-muids for 6 mos and 50% in stainless. This is much more mineral tasting than the Crozes Meysonniers we had before - has more of the St. Peray signature from cooler temps and higher altitude. I like this one a bit better.
