Lavender, anise, roasted rosemary, vanilla nose. Velvety, pepper, blackberry, sage. Still has some tannin. A real treasure but I suspect there are not a lot of these left on Earth.

My first time tasting the ancient Mondeuse grape varietal which is rarely planted outside of the Savoie wine region of France, with an estimated 300 hectares planted worldwide. Wine tears on glass. Initial taste of "forest floor." Dark. Dense. Smooth. Well made. Not complex which might be why it is often blended in Savoie with Gamay, Pinot Noir and Poulsard. Tasty wine, but aside from satisfying my curiosity about an obscure grape varietal, I'm of the mind that Mondeuse is probably best utilized as a component of a blended wine, one that includes one or more grape varietals that offer "lift." Compared to Mataro/Mouvedre, Mondeuse is easier on the palate, a more pleasing experience, at least the way that Lagier Meredith craft this wine.

Hasn’t budged in the almost 3 years since my last bottle. The nose is blueberry, blackberry, and cherry cobbler. Juicy, with blackberry, black pepper, baking spices, and mouth coating tannins. Luscious.

Nose of blackberry, black raspberry, blue fruits, and peonies. Dry back and blue fruit palate with cast iron, asphalt, and pepper. Finish brings black plum, black cherry acidity, earth, and ferrous metals with a strong mineral energy. Wine of the night.

Rosemary, pine brush, cedar nose. Whole plum, pepper, pomegranate mouth. Flush with acidity and tannin for years to come.
