Still holding on, the immediate indication of its stability and drinkability was the dark blackish garnet color, medium full bodied, firm and tight, complex, the remaining black berry fruits were accented by predominant cigar notes with some cedar, spice and earth notes on the focused finish. Drinking this son's birthyear vintage label with sons on Father's Day. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2022/06/dads-day-father-son-tasting-birthyear.html

While initially musty and funky, this quickly opened to reveal its true native character and tasting profile. Dark garnet colored, medium full bodied, complex but nicely integrated black berry and black cherry fruits were highlighted with notes of spicy cinnamon and clove with tones of cedar, cigar box, and dark mocha turning to long supple tannin laced tongue coating finish. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2021/06/family-reveal-dinner-calls-for.html

Stunning wine! 1st of 6 bottles bought at auction. A lot of funk at first, but totally normal for a wine that age. Some bricking but by no means turning brown. A lot of red fruit left and M+ acidity. This still has a few years in it. Tannins are superfine, nearly imperceptible but it draws saliva from the back of the mouth. Incredibly balanced and very long finish. I remember doing the “Decades” tasting at Freemark Abbey a few years ago and we had an 85. Might have been the Bosché, I don’t remember. But ever since then I’ve been picking up old FA when I can find it and this bottle is the reward. The low scores here seem to be about flawed bottles or people who don’t understand old wine.

First of 3 bottles bought at auction. Cork is perfect. The wine was really funky after opening. It came around a little after 30 mins but the wine is pretty much gone.

My last bottle of this wine bought at auction six years ago for $40, first of four nights. Nose of black cherry, black berry, boysenberry, and forest floor, same on the palate, big body, seen better days, time to drink up, lots of flavor, good complexity, very tasty, medium finish hurt the score.
