  • Mmm, delish! This has settled down nicely, all dark berries, hints of meat and pepper, suave and velvety on palate with plenty of vin nature sap on the palate. Good stuff!

  • Very dark, deep color in the glass. Intense on the nose with the textbook aromatics: sweet blackberry fruit, freshly ground black pepper, minerals and wet leaves. Hauntingly beautiful and expressive stuff. Surprisingly substantial on the palate with expansive dark toned fruit and nicely gripping tannins. Again there is a sweet edge to the fruit but there is nothing overripe about it. It’s pretty amazing how complete of a wine it is and how well it is drinking right now, on PnP no less. So silky and refined, downright fine dining in its demeanor. I can’t wait to see how this one ages in the bottle.

  • An organic Saint-Joseph made with grapes from two climats: 50% from Malleval (planted in the late 1970's) and 50% from Saint Pierre-de-Boeuf (planted in the late 2000's). A large portion of grapes is vinified as whole bunches. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, macerated for 4 weeks, aged for 18 months in used (3-5 yo) 228-liter pièces. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with a minimal dose of 40 mg/l SO2. Tasted half-blind.

Deep, luminous black cherry color that permits only very little light through. Exceptionally fragrant and attractive nose with vibrant, heady aromas of fresh brambly blackberries, some juicy plums, a little bit of blackcurrant, light floral notes of violets, a hint of raw bloody meat and a touch of boysenberries. As pure and expressive as a young Syrah can be. Wow. The wine is ripe, fresh and remarkably fruity on the palate with lush, sweet-toned flavors of boysenberries, some plum jam, a little bit of juicy blackberries, light blueberry tones, a hint of peppery spice and a touch of meaty umami. High, crunchy acidity and textural, moderately grippy tannins. The finish is fresh, pure and crunchy with some tannic grip and focused flavors of blueberries, floral violet tones, some sweet plums, a little bit of peppery spice, light brambly tones, a hint of sappy herbal greenness and a touch of game.

An exceptionally beautiful and so very poised Saint Joseph. The heady, captivating nose is an experience in itself, and the wine is something one could ever hope for in a young Syrah. Serious and substantial, yet at the same time relatively weightless and wonderfully playful. This is not an extracted Hermitage or a concentrated Cornas powerhouse, but instead something akin to a pure essence of more delicate Saint Joseph style. Immensely rewarding already this young, but showing great potential for future development. If there was more hype around this producer, I'd happily say the hype is real, but for now I guess I just need to state that this is simply outstanding. Crazy value at 21€.
