A revisit of the 100 % CS from Sette Ponti’s Poggio al Lupo: plum, leather, black currant, tobacco, cherry, soft oak, medium body, very nice finish. Nice value for money!

Tasted at event with reps from the winery and along with 13 year vertical of Oreno. Again on its own from own bottle and similar impression. Classic Cab on the nose which was slightly unexpected considering the price was expecting a fruit bomb or uninspired wine which is usually the case in this price range from CA cabs but pleasantly surprised. Med body and slightly more acidity than its new world counterparts. Med tannins and very approachable for its age. Decanted 3+ hours and fruit was definitely more evident but balanced well with the acidity. Went well with cheese and charcuterie. Not sure how long to age but would be interested to see how it evolves over the next 5 years or so. Will try with the Oreno and Crognolo over next 5-10 years again.

In my view this is a poor attempt at a new world style wine from the great region of Maremma. The wine has virtually no aroma. On the palette the wine is acidic, tannic and lacking fruit display. $40 is totally ridiculous for this style of wine from this great region.

This is delicious. Nose of red fruit and cigar box. Loads of dark cherries on the palate. Medium weight with a nice texture and a soft tannic grip.

Smells like Cabernet, red fruit and good richness. Powerful stuff.
