Medium ruby in glass. Decanted for 1+ hours as wine slowly opened to release dried red cherry, red currant changing to black currant, blackberry chocolate. Plenty going on here. Palate is dry, med+ acidity, high alc, med+ body, high tannins. Palate follows the nose, along with some vanilla and oak. A sweetness in the back of the palate but med- finish, disappointing. Intensity med. This a good amarone that you could drink now but should hopefully get better with age - it certainly has the alc, tannin, and acidity. However the intensity of the fruit is lacking, perhaps simply an evolution issue and likely related to the alc sitting on top and not yet integrating. I would try this again in a few years. One bottle left.
Bumping up final score to 91 from 89 after a fat better session on night number two. Everything seem to come alive, acidity more vibrant, fruit stepped up alongside the alcohol and allowed for a longer finish. Chocolate!
Lesson learned not to judge too quickly. A food wine, or a nice cocktail if that’s what you’re in the mood for. Drink now or drink later. Recommend to decant

Earthy, herbaceous nose of red cherry compote, red bell pepper & baking spices, sweet, well-balanced palate of ripe red cherry & fig Newton, caramel, molasses, chocolate sauce, hints of pepper & leather, round, soft tannins, long, lingering finish. Wow.

Solid Amarone, good weight and flavor complexity, finishes dusty and dry. Good solid effort for the price.
